Some advise for me on my Rome holiday?

Posted by admin

Hi,

I am visiting Rome in mid June, what will the weather be like? I have read that it isn't as hot as it gets (that being in July and August) but that it is still quite hot. Also, how humid does it get around then? Any tips on keeping cool?

Also, we are staying in the Stazione Termini area, in a fairly cheap backpacker type place, is it safe? Is it easy to get to from Leonardo da Vinci airport?

Finally, any tips on being a visitor in Rome in general?

Thanks

Looks like everyone covered most of your questions. I would also add that the metro system is a fast way to get around Rome but it isn't as comprehensive as ones in London or Paris, you'll still have to do some walking.

I'm guessing you're staying in a hostel or cheap hotel, so I would check with the front desk for a map of the city. I personally enjoyed walking everywhere; from the Termini area you can walk to the Colosseum in 30-45 minutes, and you can pretty much walk across the historic part of the city in a couple hours. It will get a little hot but like the guy above says, eat lots of gelato!

Definitely get and wear a money belt to wear under your shirt. I would keep your passport and credit cards in there for sure. It gets a little annoying when you're hot (you sweat more where the belt is wrapped around you) but the metros and touristy areas are notorious for pickpockets.

I found the best way to enjoy Rome is to get up around 9:30 or 10 and just walk all day. Just randomly go into little shops or cafes, hit a few of the big attractions but don't feel like you have to see them all. I personally enjoyed the whole Vatican area (though I'm not Catholic), and if you have a day to waste you HAVE to see the Vatican Museum, it is worth the wait. But if you do go there, don't rush through everything to see the Sistine Chapel (it's a bit anticlimactic), just enjoy the art everywhere. I also enjoyed the Trevi Fountain area and the Pantheon.

Best places to go on summer holidays?

Posted by admin

I want to go on holidays this year, preferably somewhere in Europe so that I wouldn't have to exchange my money. I would like to go on more of a city break than a beach holiday! Went to Rome last year and I loved it! Any ideas of any places similar that wouldn't be too expensive?

Check out the lovely and pittoresque Ljubljana in Slovenia!
