Do many tourists in Rome get mugged by Romanian gypsies?

OMFG The ignorance in this site is getting even bigger.Off course NOT.The Italian mafia is super famous so i pretty much guess obviously the Romanians aren't the problem.Romania unfortunately got straggled after communism who in fact destroyed the country and didn't make anything better as they promised to us.Also ignorant and racist people like YOU who don't understand probably by giving NO job to the poor Romanians they force them to steal and kill.We Romanians we are in general a very hostile,gentle and friendly nation.But some westerners and other powers (Byzantines,Soviets,Ottomans) they exploited our friendliness and they humiliated us.And Romanians are 93% Slavs and there are and 4% Greeks who live there the gypsies make up a small minority.And if you knew more things about history you never had post this swallow question,cause those ''gypsies'' the Roma or Tsigagni are people of a very high culture,deep and ancient.And they inspire many important cultures like the Spanish.The name gypsy by the way idiot came from the word ''Egyptian'' cause Byzantines thought that these nomads came from Egypt.Athiganous are the nomads of Europe.And Romanian women aren't prostitudes. italian mafia is famous WORLD WIDE i pretty much guess there are Italian women wh0r3s too.So please give me a break and remove this idiot question.I am Romanian living in Greece and my father (Romanian) is bussness man here with a higher wallet than your own.

in Spain, the Romanians are a big problem, and not all the Romanian criminals are gypsys
the white Romanians aew famous because the Romanian mafia, and the Romanian prostitutes

I spent a wonderful time in Rome and I didn't get mugged by anyone. I did see a few gypsy beggars, but they didn't bother me…just held out their hands like the beggars we have in the US…no different. I would be more concerned with professional pick pockets that love to hand out in crowded tourist places. However, it is the same in all large cities. Just be careful and be aware of your surroundings. Carry your money in a money belt.

As sorry as I am to say this, in Rome tourists should be aware of pickpockets, and often these are gipsy children: they surround you in a swarm of 6 to 8 children and, while most of them ask for coins, a couple carefully goes though your bag or pockets. So be careful. I've personally seen it happen a few times, and even though police often stop them, most times they are able to run away, and the police can't do much anyway because they are minors. It is also a problem in Milan, in front ot the Central Train station. So, tourists, beware!

Seriously? Gypsies aren't Romanian! There are gypsies that live in Romania and there are many from there, but gypsies aren't from anywhere. They are descendants of northern Indians. They descend from an ancient warrior caste and were exiled, hence the wandering. They are known to stay in places for weeks, months and even centuries. They are notorious for being thieves and beggers. Thats why they were persecuted so much in Europe. They were enslaved for 500 years in Romania. The proper term for them is Romani or Rom having nothing to do with Romania. They aren't romanian.

Gypsies more often than not tend to beg and can often do so in an obnoxious manner. I haven't heard any cases of them attacking tourists, but I'm sure it has happened at least once or twice.
Drive by handbag snatching happens quite a lot, but it isn't the Gypsies who perpetrate that particular type of crime.
