Roman Holiday in Rome

Roman Holiday - Rome
Roma
Reference Number : RMC717
Sleeps: 4/5
http://www.parkervillas.com/villas/villadetails.cfm?villa_ID=6190&occ=5&year=2009
Princess Anne and Audrey Hepburn would have adored this place - elegant, understated and discretely tucked away behind Rome’s most celebrated square: Piazza Navona.
To complement its outstanding location, Roman Holiday offers spacious interiors, exceptional quality furnishings, precious antiques, high beamed ceilings and wood parquet floors. Completely smoke free, this apartment is fully air conditioned and comes with a brand new kitchen, a washer and dryer and large, double paned windows that significantly reduce the raucous liveliness of the narrow street below.
High speed Internet access for laptop users and two hours of Wednesday maid service are included in the cost. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed.
Seven steps are required to reach the building’s elevator. Just outside the front door is an osteria with outdoor seating. It’s open for lunch and dinner. The keyholder can also provide good dining suggestions such as Ada’s, a restaurant run by two elderly women where you set your own table and pick up your food from the kitchen. You’d better do as mamma says.
Since Rome’s Termini station is nearly two miles away, we recommend a cab on arrival day. Buses to all of the leading attractions stop within 200 yards. Within a 400 yard stroll is the Pantheon or Campo dei Fiori.
A half mile walk leads to the Trevi Fountain or Castel Sant’Angelo and within three quarters of a mile are the Spanish Steps and Via dei Condotti.

Rome - St. Peter’s Basilica
Posted by admin
The Basilica of Saint Petrus, officially known in Italian as the Basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano and commonly called Saint Peter’s Basilica, is one of four major basilicas of Rome (St. John Lateran, St. Peter’s, Santa Maria Maggiore and St. Paul outside the Walls). It is the most prominent building inside the Vatican City. Its dome is also a dominant feature of the Roman skyline. Saint Peter’s is also incidentally the patriarchal basilica of Constantinople whereas the Lateran Basilica is the patriarchal basilica of Rome. Possibly the largest church building in Christianity, it covers an area of 5.7 acres (2.3 ha) and has a capacity of over 60,000 people. One of the holiest sites of Christendom in the Catholic tradition, it is traditionally the burial site of its namesake Saint Peter, who was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus, first Bishop of Antioch, and later first Bishop of Rome. Although the New Testament does not mention Peter’s presence or martyrdom in Rome, ancient tradition holds that his tomb is below the baldachin and altar; for this reason, many Popes, starting with the first ones, have been buried there. Construction on the current basilica, over the old Constantinian basilica, began on April 18, 1506 and was completed in 1626.
